Hindu Maha Sabha, a religious and cultural society, was established with a view to look after the welfare and advancement of our community.

It all started when 36 eminent personalities met together on the 27th February 1925 in the office of Baboo Teelucksing Gujadhur.In that meeting Mr Bhagwat Lallah announced that Mr Baboo Telucksing Gujadhur was donating a building which he had purchased and situated at Comer Poudriere and Mallefille streets, Port Louis for the setting up of a hospice and was also donating a sum of money for the establishment up of a library.

Ganga Talao formerly called Grand Bassin is situated in the district of Savanne. It is about 1800 feet above sea level and is surrounded by natural scenic beauties in a serene and calm atmosphere. Ganga Talao is the crowning glory of all a marvel of picturesque nature.

On that very auspicious occasion, the Committee selected the name Hindu Maha Sabha for its Association.
The Sabha, very soon after, received the visit of two distinguished guests form India, Pt Vanshiram Sharma and Pt Ramsharan Shastri, who gave the first blessing to the Sabha. And it all started well.
